Brittany Sanner took home the $500 1st place prize in the Individual category.  The main body of the Wonder Woman costume was made out of painted newspaper with an underskirt of plastic grocery store bags. The Lasso of Truth was made out of braided painted newspaper. The bracelets were made out of soda cans. The tiara was made from a microwave dinner box.

Barb Hoffman, who came as a cleaver-crazy chef, took home the $250 second-place prize in the Team category.

Ashley Reutter reacts after taking home the $500 first place prize in the Team category. Ashley was “Old News,” with a costume made primarily of newspaper accented with soda can hair rollers, a garbage bag shawl and a purse made out of a pizza box.

Joanne Fried, Director of Public Relations for U-Haul International, which donated $1,500 in cash prizes, poses with “rooster” Nick Mohr. Nick, who placed 2nd in the Individual category, made his costume from plastic, cardboard, paper and metal. Medicine bottles were used for eyes and plastic pop bottles for the rooster comb.

James Rivas, the “Manic Hispanic” from Mega 104.3, served as event emcee. Here he interviews Brittany Sanner, a microbiology student who came dressed as Wonder Woman.

Manic Hispanic James Rivas interviews ASU communications student Samuel Rugeris, who described his costume as that of a "chivalrous knight defending the environment around the campus of ASU." The 100-percent recyclable costume was made from cardboard, aluminum foil, paper, cans and water bottles. Samuel received a $50 gift certificate to the ASU bookstore for placing third in the Individual category.

Representatives from the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), Arizona State University (ASU), and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) served as judges for the event.  Pictured from left to right are Gordon Tyus, MAG Graphics Specialist; Dr. Susanne Neuer, Associate Professor, ASU School of Life Sciences; and Stephanie Brown, ADOT Adopt-a-Highway Program Manager.
